The Original Walking Safari
As the plight of elephants in the wild becomes more and more dire worldwide, the more significant witnessing these grand creatures up close is for us. We encourage people to support the reserves that provide a safe haven for elephants and Africa’s other animals to roam freely.
One such place is the South Luangwa National Park, a park that is still home to a healthy elephant population. The spectacular Luangwa Valley was, after all, once known as the Valley of the Elephants. It is also home to the walking safari, the very place where this exceptional experience, no doubt one of the finest ways to explore Africa’s wild spaces, first originated.
The Luangwa River courses through the region, attracting around 60 different animal species and over 400 different bird species in the South Luangwa National Park alone. Like the beautiful baobabs on our own Katombora Island at Royal Chundu, South Luangwa is dotted with magnificent baobabs, as well as large ebony, mopane, leadwood, marula and tamarind trees.
